SEX in the Media

In Spain, something you might not expect if you still think of Spain as an extremely Catholic and oppressed country (maybe I did too..) is Sex and nudity to be in more places then you would really think.

I started to think more about this after I became aware walking around and watching the news that I was seeing a lot of naked women, very in shape men with little boxers, and even scenes from a strip club on the channel 5 news. Surprised? Yes.

So I did a lot reading. It seems that when the Socialists were in power, Zapatero wanted to ban sex advertisements in the paper. According to the The Guardian, roughly 60% of all classfieds had to do with sex. Zapatero was quoted as saying that this encourages trafficking, sexual exploitation and prostitution. Since prostitution is not illegal in Spain, they are allowed to run the ads, which generate 40 million euros a YEAR in revenue. CRAZY.
