The most bizzare voting ad you will probably ever see.

Voting is A Pleasure. Run by the Socialist youth of Catalonia.

Voting Campaign video in America.
As sexy as it will probably ever get...
what messages do you think they are each trying to communicate?

which do you like better?

SEX in the Media

In Spain, something you might not expect if you still think of Spain as an extremely Catholic and oppressed country (maybe I did too..) is Sex and nudity to be in more places then you would really think.

I started to think more about this after I became aware walking around and watching the news that I was seeing a lot of naked women, very in shape men with little boxers, and even scenes from a strip club on the channel 5 news. Surprised? Yes.

So I did a lot reading. It seems that when the Socialists were in power, Zapatero wanted to ban sex advertisements in the paper. According to the The Guardian, roughly 60% of all classfieds had to do with sex. Zapatero was quoted as saying that this encourages trafficking, sexual exploitation and prostitution. Since prostitution is not illegal in Spain, they are allowed to run the ads, which generate 40 million euros a YEAR in revenue. CRAZY.

The News

Coming from America, I am quite used to my news being conservative, slanted, and focused on the violent or destructive things happening locally and around the world. Things are blurred, cut, and even photoshopped out of media to keep certain images out of view of the public. Here, I was beyond to surprised to be welcomed into the city with barely clothed (very good looking) individuals on billboards and magazines and women's breasts, yes you heard right, BREASTS on the news. Nipple and everything. In the US that just would not fly. Not even close.
Back home, to get a shot of breasts you need to go to special subscription channels, such as HBO or Showtime, other wise there is no breast, even bras are considered scandals. I was taken aback when I was watching a story about the cold weather blowing through Europe (enough already) when all of the sudden, a story about breast implants begins followed by a good minute of shots of naked women sun bathing, walking around, close ups, all shapes and sizes.
The staying up all night lifestyle may have shocked my system a bit but the media has truly caught me off guard.
